According to investigators, the FBI in Minneapolis received a tip in January that a man named Joe had been involved in the Capitol riot. The tipster, who was not identified, said that Joe had taken a selfie inside the Capitol building after breaking in and sent it to his mother, officials said.
Joe had been living with his father, who was not identified, in New York but moved to Minnesota to live with his mother after officials started to investigate the Jan. 6 insurrection, according to officials. The tipster gave investigators the mother's name, officials said. They did not release the mother's name.

The FBI in Minneapolis found records of Frank Joseph Bratjan Jr. living at the same address as his mother, officials said.
An investigator saw three other tips saying that Bratjan posted on social media about his involvement in the insurrection, saying he was tear-gassed and pepper-sprayed, according to officials.
FBI Minneapolis interviewed another tipster who worked at a gym that Bratjan frequented, officials said. Bratjan told the tipster he was involved in the insurrection and was tear-gassed, according to officials.
Bratjan deleted his social media posts about being at the Capitol, but the tipster's friend took screenshots, which were provided to the FBI, officials said. None of the tipsters was identified.
A YouTube video about van life on Bratjan's page analyzed by officials shows him wearing the same clothes he wore in his selfie in the Capitol, as well as security footage from the building, officials said.
