Eagan Rotary presents Student of the Month Awards

Eagan Rotary presented three Eagan High School Students of the Month for March, April and May, 2024

Eagan Rotary presented Student of the Month Awards for March, April and May, 2024, to three Eagan High School Students.

The March Student of the Month honoree is: Samson Axelrod

As a volunteer, Samson has participated in Eagan High School Peer Tutoring and various community assistance activities related to engaging with the elderly and yard clean up through Eagan Interact Club.

He also volunteers regularly with Summer in the Park and the South Metro Islamic Center Food Shelf. In addition, Samsom has been an assistant youth soccer coach through Eagan Wave Soccer Association.

Samson is a National Honor Society club officer and co-founder of Eagan Jewish Culture Club.

In Academics, he is a member of the Math Team, participates in dual enrollment student at Inver Hills Community College (starting in 8th grade) and the U of M. He has earned an associate degree in business from Inver Hills Community College earning a 4.0 GPA), and is on the Dean’s List. He is a National Merit Finalist, a US Presidential Scholarship Semifinalist, and a UMTYMP graduate

In Athletics he plays Tennis, is on the Swim and Dive team (Dove Varsity) and is on the Ultimate Frisbee varsity team.

His musical talents include
- Wind Ensemble Oboist
- Alto Sax 1 in Eagan Jazz 1
- 6-time superior performance in solo/ensemble
- All State oboist
- Marching band section leader
- Principal Oboist in U of M Campus Orchestra

For college, he plans to study Economics at Harvard.

The April Student of the Month honoree is: Eddie Moore

One of Eddie’s main volunteer activities at EHS has been Link Crew, where he has supported incoming Freshmen throughout their first year of high school to make it a most positive experience.

In the community, Eddie is involved with the Little Wildcats Program and Home Ice Advantage, where he has been able to work with countless kids in the Eagan area as they learn to play hockey. He has also been an assistant hockey coach and plays Hockey, Soccer and Baseball at Eagan High School.

In addition, Eddie is in the National Honor Society, World Language Honor Society, and received the Hardest Worker and HEART Awards for EHS Hockey.

For college, Eddie plans to study Engineering any the University of Iowa.

The May Student of the Month honoree is: Mason Hoekenga

Mason is currently serving as Eagan High School Class of 2024 President. He has been instrumental in two big initiatives: (1) Raised $6K for Armful of Love and (2) Organized the EHS food drive raising $1K in food and donations for the Open Door.

He also started the Fight for Food 5k, an annual fundraising event to help fight hunger in Eagan. For the last 3 years, Mason has been a Sunday school teacher.

Mason is captain of the Eagan Cross Country team, is a Legacy award winner and is Ragnar Team Captain for the overnight race from Minneapolis to Duluth.

He is the Eagan Speech team captain and has won numerous distinguished awards during his speech career.

During college, Mason plans to study Finance.
