TWIN CITIES, MN — METRO Blue and Green light-rail trains will be testing out the use of two-car trains starting this Saturday. Typically, three cars are in each train.

The two-car test program is part of Metro Transit's Safety & Security Action Plan. Officials hope that by reducing the number of cars per train, it will:

  • Increase the likelihood that customers will see a police officer, which is considered a top priority for customers.
  • Reduce wear and tear on the trains themselves
  • Reduce the amount of cleaning necessary while various transit departments are understaffed

The test program is expected to run through Aug. 20. Customers are asked to move to the departing end of the platform when waiting for a train.
