EAGAN, MN — The Minnesota Vikings have traded for Arizona Cardinals quarterback Josh Dobbs, the teams confirmed.

In exchange for the journeyman quarterback — plus a 2024 seventh-round pick — the Vikings sent Arizona a 2024 sixth-round pick.

After starting the season 1-7, the Cardinals benched Dobbs and plan to start Clayton Tune.

The trade — likely only a short-term solution — comes just days after quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered a season-ending Achilles' tendon tear, which will require surgery.

Despite the fourth-quarter injury, the Vikings held on to beat the Green Bay Packers, 24-10, last Sunday.

The 4-4 Vikings are second in the NFC North behind the 6-2 Detroit Lions. Minnesota heads to Atlanta to play the Falcons this Sunday, who are also 4-4.

It's not yet clear if Dobbs will be ready in time to start against the Falcons. Vikings rookie QB Jaren Hall stepped in after Cousins went down against the Packers.
