Here is Ben Goessling’s clarification on how things will proceed with Tomlinson:

Obviously, fans want Tomlinson to be available as soon as possible. He is, after all, one of the team’s most important defenders. His short and long-term health, though, are of far more importance than mere football. First and foremost, the hope ought to be that Tomlinson gets healthy and stays healthy. Ideally, he’s not even sick in the first place and that this is contact tracing.

The run defense is much improved in recent weeks, and he is no small part of that. The Vikings roster has already dealt with more than its fair share of Covid absences and injuries. To go on a playoff run, the team will need to be at as close to 100% as possible.

The Vikings.com article provides a succinct summary of Tomlinson’s impact this year: “Tomlinson has started all 10 games for Minnesota this season. He has recorded 26 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a pass defended and a fumble recovery in his first season with the Vikings.”

Many Vikings fans seem to be sleeping on the 49ers. They shouldn’t. Minnesota will have their hands full on Sunday. Hopefully, Tomlinson will be negative and can be part of a winning effort.
