Snowfall Reports: How Much Snow Fell In The Eagan Area?

The Twin Cities metro area broke a snowfall record on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

EAGAN, MN — The Twin Cities metro area broke a snowfall record on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

A total of 7.4 inches of snow fell at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport on Dec. 21. That amount breaks the previous record for Dec. 21 snowfall, which was 5.3 inches in 1920.

More snow continued to fall overnight.

Here are the 24-hour snowfall totals, taken at 7 a.m. Thursday:

  • MSP: 8.1 inches
  • Chanhassen/MPX: 7.0 inches
  • St. Cloud: 5.0 inches
  • Eau Claire: 4.8 inches

Lakeville saw at least 8 inches of snow in the latest storm, according to an unofficial measurement taken at 7:48 a.m. Thursday. No measurements have been reported out of Eagan yet.

What's next?

The NWS expects a ground blizzard to develop Thursday and last through Friday night, and says not to travel.

If you must drive, these five items are a must for your car:

  • Booster cables
  • Sand or cat litter, to create wheel traction
  • Shovel
  • Tow cables or chain
  • Sleeping bag and/or blankets

If you can, fit these items in your vehicle as well:

  • Candles and matches
  • Flashlight, extra batteries
  • Snowmobile suit, snow boots
  • Road flares or reflectors
  • Non-perishable food
