'Take Cover Now': Tornado Warning Issued For Northern Dakota County

Residents in Dakota County should move to a basement or the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows, weather officials said.

EAGAN, MN — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for the northern part of Dakota County, including the Eagan area. Residents should move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building and avoid windows.

"At 850 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Eagan, or 7 miles south of St. Paul, moving northeast at 45 mph," the NWS said. The storm will move into South St. Paul and West St. Paul around 9 p.m.

"Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."
