Eagan wins "best of" national community awards
Based on resident feedback to the 2020 National Community Survey (NCS), the City of Eagan won three Voice of the People (VOP) Awards: Excellence in Foundations in Livability, Excellence in Natural Environment, and Transformation in Natural Environment.
“Especially impressive is the Foundations in Livability Award,” says Dave Osberg, city administrator. “It accounts for every facet considered by residents in the survey. This overall best-of-community award should make everyone who lives and works in Eagan proud.” Eagan was nominated as a finalist and won more awards than any other participating community in the NCS.

The VOP Awards are the only ones given in local government based on the opinions of residents. This year’s competition was particularly fierce: Finalists and winners were only those jurisdictions that received the highest ratings on the NCS (Excellence Award), that garnered the most improved ratings on the NCS (Transformation Award), and that illustrated actions taken to benefit their communities.
Eagan was also nominated for Excellence in Community Design, Parks and Recreation, and Health and Wellness; plus Transformation in Parks and Recreation, and Health and Wellness.
The NCS considers these community livability facets: safety, mobility, the natural environment, the built environment, the economy, recreation and wellness, and education and enrichment.
According to the VOP awards committee, Eagan’s applications demonstrated a commitment to best practices in moving the community forward and embodied the spirit of the National Community Survey. Learn more at cityofeagan.com/survey.
