Tim Mahoney (“The Voice”) Partners With SCHOOL OF ROCK To Teach Students Ages 8+ How To Write Original Music
Ages 8-24 years old who want to learn to write their own songs can learn directly from Mahoney, who has sold 100,000 units of his own music.
Songwriter and performer Tim Mahoney has partnered with School of Rock Eden Prairie to teach students ages 8 - 24 years old how to write their own original songs.
Since 1998 School of Rock has been teaching students how to play electric guitar, bass, drums, keys and vocals through rock cover tunes. Students participate in a weekly private instrument lesson and a weekly group rehearsal that culminates in performing a live rock concert in a real rock venue. This past weekend the students sold out Whiskey Junction in Minneapolis, MN.
This new partnership with Tim Mahoney will expand the School of Rock curriculum in that it will focus on acoustic instruments and original song writing to offer music instruction to young musicians who are interested in writing and performing their own music with acoustic guitar, keys (aka piano), ukulele or singer/songwriter. As with the current curriculum, students will have two lessons each week. One lesson will focus on learning to play their instrument. The second weekly lesson will focus on the student's songwriting. Original Music students may showcase their music in a live performance, record their music in a professional recording studio under Mahoney's guidance or both.

Mahoney brings a record of success to his new role. His music was featured on the ever-popular Cities '97 Holiday Sampler in 1997. He was featured in a 2007 issue of Rolling Stone magazine and competed on The Voice in 2011. Mahoney has sold more than 100,000 units of his music with his best-selling hit reaching #75 on the iTunes singles chart. As one of the Twin Cities most successful singer/songwriters, Mahoney is uniquely qualified to influence the next generation of musicians who study under him.
Young musicians interested in studying with Mahoney can call the School of Rock to check availability and enroll. Song writing lessons begin the first week in January and the School is currently accepting bookings.
