Organizers Gearing Up for 46th Annual Edina Art Fair

Minneapolis-based Artist Dewey James' mixed media acrylic piece "High Wire" has been selected as the 2012 Edina Art Fair's featured piece.

"The committee felt 'Hire Wire' was colorful and unique," said Rachel Hubbard, director of the 50th & France Business and Professional Association. "We believe it will be a great representation of the Edina Art Fair."

The 46th Annual Art Fair kicks off at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 1 and runs through Sunday, June 3, with booths scattered throughout the 50th & France Business District of Edina. This year's event features more than 320 artists and crafters from throughout Minnesota, the U.S. and Canada.

James, who received an Award of Excellence at a previous Edina Art Fair, will be in good company as booths featuring ceramics, jewelry, glass, photography, wood carvings, mixed media, 2D pieces, fine art, wearables and sculpture will line the curbs of France Avenue and 50th Street and the Lunds parking lot for three straight days.

If browsing and shopping art aren't your thing, fair goers can enjoy entertainment ranging from a puppet show by Anne Sawyer-Aitch called "Nalah and the Pink Tiger," as well as performances by the Teddy Bear Band and Chicks on Sticks. The fair also boasts a Kids Art Zone, a Community Art Project, pottery wheel demos and original artwork from Edina Public Schools students as part of the "Foot in the Fair" program.

Just last year, the Edina Art Fair was rated the 48th Best Art Fair in the Country by Sunshine Artist Magazine and the 69th best Fine Art Fair in the country by the Art Fair Source Book.

The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, June 1-2, and from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 3. Free shuttle service from is provided from 9 a.m. to 8 pm. Friday and Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

A bike corral is also located next to the parking lot.
