It’s cramming time—only a few short weeks left to enjoy great summer reading and library programs before back-to-school preparations begin! Hennepin County Library’s “Bookawocky” summer programs for kids and teens wrap up in August with storytimes, book clubs, arts programs, online activities, and more (all free). Libraries offer free programs for adults, too—including author programs, computer classes, small business consultations and job search assistance.

Ready for Kindergarten
Thursdays, Aug. 2-16, 11-11:30 a.m. at Edina Library
Entering kindergarten. Each session will explore kindergarten readiness through a variety of stories. Topics include: friends and sharing, ABCs and community helpers, the first day of school.
Paint It Green: I Spy Nature
Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2-3:30 p.m. at Edina Library
Registration required; began July 10; limit 20. Entering grades 3-5. I spy bones, insects, pine cones and more; making I spy creations is what we’ll explore! We will be rhyming, solving riddles and building nature collections to photograph for your very own I Spy picture challenge.
This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with Silverwood Park.

Inventing With Hugo
Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2-4 p.m. at Southdale Library
Registration required; began July 3; limit 20. Entering grades 2-6. Use your imaginations to design, create and construct handmade toys. Explore various arts and crafts materials including wood, wire, cardboard and clay to create a board game and sculptural wooden toy inspired by the film "Hugo."

Teen Anime Club

Entering grades 7-12. Can't get enough anime? Join up to watch and review brand-new anime episodes, share artwork and hang out with other anime fans.

Creating a Targeted Résumé

Registration required; began July 5; limit 40. Learn the basics of résumé-writing and how to make your résumé relevant to the position in which you are interested.

Bill the Juggler
Monday, Aug. 6, 10:30 a.m. at Southdale Library
Entering K-grade 5. Bill the Juggler will amaze and delight audiences by juggling things that just shouldn't be juggled, such as bowling balls, rubber chickens and other odd objects.

Paint It Green: Nature Digital Photos
Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2-3:30 p.m. at Southdale Library
Registration required; began July 11; limit 20. Entering grades 3-5. Zoom in to the library to take a closer look at nature through the lens of a camera. Go on a photo scavenger hunt, learn about the life cycle of a plant and create a living seed necklace. Digital cameras provided.

Chess Club
Wednesdays, Aug. 8 & 22, 6:30-8 p.m. at Southdale Library
Entering grades 4-6. Chess it out! Have fun learning the basics of chess, improving your game, mastering strategies and meeting other chess fans. Walk-ins welcome.
Health Insurance Counseling for Seniors
Thursdays, Aug. 9 & 23, 9-10 a.m. at Southdale Library
Registration required; begins July 12; limit 1. A certified state health insurance counselor will assist with senior health insurance (enrollment steps, plan choices, low-income subsidy). Bring your list of prescriptions or your prescription bottles, Medicare, supplemental insurance, and/or Part D drug plan questions. Limit 1 or one couple per session.

SCORE® Small Business Consultations
Monday, Aug. 13, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Southdale Library
