Homeowners Call Fire Department for Burnt Insect

The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Feb. 6-12.

The Edina Fire Department responded to the following incidents during the week of Feb. 6-12:

Monday, Feb. 6

  • Paramedic firefighters responded to 12 incidents requiring emergency medical service. 
  • Two false fire alarms were investigated.

Tuesday, Feb. 7

  • Nine responses required emergency medical service.
  • One response for a false fire alarm was due to burnt food.

Wednesday, Feb. 8

  • Thirteen incidents were attended by paramedic firefighters providing emergency medical service.
  • A request from the St. Louis Park Fire Department for mutual aid for a possible house fire was cancelled en route.
  • Firefighters investigated two false fire alarms.

Thursday, Feb. 9

  • There were seven emergency medical service responses.
  • Firefighters investigated a reported smell of natural gas in the area of the 5800 block of Ewing Avenue. It was discovered that a utility company was thawing out soil under the street with propane tanks and torches. 
  • A fire alarm at a strip mall in the 3300 block of Hazelton Road alerted firefighters to a water flow. A contractor had accidentally struck a fire sprinkler pipe. The contractor had also shut down the system prior to the arrival of the fire department. Repair to the system had also already been ordered.
  • A burning odor at a residence in the 6400 block of Interlachen Boulevard was found to be from a bug inside a lamp. 

Friday, Feb. 10

  • Employees arriving to open the Braemar Golf Dome found a tear in the roof and smelled an odor of natural gas; they called 9-1-1. Firefighters arrived and natural gas and propane were turned off. Low levels of gas were measured inside the dome with the inflation fans running. The dome was partially deflated and it was discovered that a hole had been burned through a portion of the dome. Further investigation found that the dry vegetation on the hillside beyond the dome had also burned. There were no active fires. Firefighters shut down power and water to the facility. The fire marshal responded to the scene to investigate.     
  • Paramedic firefighters assisted at 13 emergency medical service incidents. 
  • Firefighters investigated a fire alarm sounding at a residence in the 6400 block of Red Fox Court. A malfunctioning carbon monoxide alarm was found to be the cause.

Saturday, Feb. 11

  • There were six incidents requiring emergency medical service by paramedics.
  • One false fire alarm was reported.

Sunday, Feb. 12

  • Paramedic firefighters responded to 12 incidents needing emergency medical service.
