City Hosting Informational Meeting on Local Races

Edina voters will elect a Mayor and two of four seats on the City Council on Nov. 6.

With election season heating up, officials will be hosting an informational meeting on local elections from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 1. The meeting will be held in the council chambers of Edina City Hall.

In addition to choosing U.S. President, state and national legislators on Nov. 6, Edina residents will elect a Mayor and two of four seats on the City Council. The seats currently held by Mayor Jim Hovland and Council members Mary Brindle and Ann Swenson are all up for election.

City Manager Scott Neal and City Clerk Debra Mangen will lead the discussion, touching on the roles and responsibilities of Mayor and City Council members, the relationship between Council members and city staff and the role of advisory boards and commissions.

Filing for the local races opened on Tuesday, July 31, and runs through Tuesday, Aug. 14. Anyone interested in running for office must be at least 21 years old, an eligible voter and resident for at least 30 days prior to the general election.
