City Updates Edina's Political Boundaries
The city council recently approved precinct lines, which were drawn up after the state redistricting process.

Alongside the 10-year cycle of renewing state legislative and congressional boundaries to suit the latest U.S. Census date, Edina's precinct lines are adjusted as well.
The Edina City Council unanimously approved the new boundaries at a recent meeting, which in turn will be passed along to the county for approval. By law, city governments must review all precinct boundaries and polling locations following the redistricting process that takes place after the U.S. Census.
Edina residents won't notice many significant changes next year, as the city's 19 precincts—and designated polling places—remained mostly unchanged. The change of the city's northeast portion to Congressional District 5 didn't actually have much of an impact on the precincts 3, 4, 8, 9 and 14, which already largely conformed to the boundary lines.

Here's a quick rundown of some of the notable changes:
- The border between precincts 1a and 5 changed very slightly.
- The southern tip of precinct 10 was changed to precinct 19, while a southeast section of 10 was added to precinct 15.
- Precinct 16 gained a chunk of precinct 12.
- Precinct 17 lost its southern portion, which is now part of precinct 18.
- Precincts 15 and 19 swapped quite a bit of land, with 15 losing the area surrounding the Braemar Golf Course. In return, 15 gained the section of precinct 19 north of Dewey Hill Road.
While the boundaries may have changed, none of the city's 19 polling places have been altered under the new precinct lines.
