EDINA, MN — Edina officials recently approved a slew of changes to the city’s voting precincts after Minnesota’s 2022 redistricting process altered congressional district borders in the area.

The number of voting precincts in Edina will drop from 20 to 16, with the changes to take effect for the Aug. 9 primary. Precinct names will no longer include letters and will run from 1-16 after the changes approved last month by the Edina City Council.

Reducing the number of polling places will allow the city to administer elections with fewer election judges and less equipment and supplies, officials said.

Some polling places that were eliminated were “too small (and) too hot in August” or didn’t have the right layout for voting, City Clerk Sharon Allison wrote in a memo to the Edina City Council.
