Edina Firefighters Respond to Day Care Gas Leak, Malfunctioning Alarms

The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for March 21-27.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of March 21-27:

March 21

  • Fire crews were called to assist St. Louis Park Fire in fighting a house fire in the 1400 block of Maryland Avenue South.
  • Paramedic firefighters responded to seven calls for Emergency Medical Service.

March 22

  • Six EMS incidents.
  • Firefighters investigated a smell of smoke in the basement of a home in the 5600 block of Zenith Avenue South. Light smoke was found along with power out in part of the basement and water on the carpeting. A circuit breaker had been tripped and a charred outlet was found. Paneling was removed around the outlet to check for extension. Water leaking on the outlet possibly lead to an electrical arc or short.
  • A fire alarm was investigated in an apartment building in the 4400 block of West 76th Street. Firefighters found a water leak in the ceiling had dripped onto a heat detector, causing the alarm malfunction.
  • One response for a false fire alarm.

March 23

  • Nine EMS calls.
  • Firefighters responded to northbound Hwy. 169, south of Hwy. 62 for a possible car fire. A vehicle was found on the shoulder and steam was found coming from the engine. 

March 24

  • Eden Prairie Fire Department requested mutual aid assistance fighting a house fire in the 6900 block of Edgebrook Place.
  • Eight EMS responses.
  • A motor vehicle crash with no injuries occurred on Hwy. 100 near Benton Avenue.
  • Firefighters investigated a reported gas leak inside a utility room at a day care center in the 3900 block of West 70th Street. No odor or leak was found, but Centerpoint Energy responded for further investigation. 
  • A carbon monoxide alarm malfunction was investigated in the 5600 block of Woodcrest Drive.
  • One false fire alarm was reported.

March 25

  • St Louis Park Fire Department requested mutual aid assistance fighting a fire in the kitchen area of a hotel in the 5300 block of Wayzata Boulevard. 
  • Five EMS incidents.
  • A carbon monoxide alarm malfunction was checked in the 6700 block of Cornelia Drive.
  • Two false fire alarms were reported.

March 26

  • Six EMS responses.
  • One false fire alarm.

March 27

  • Eight EMS incidents.
  • One false fire alarm.
