Edina Girls to Face Bloomington Kennedy for State Tourney Bid

The Hornets are coming off of sectional tournament wins over Shakopee and Prior Lake. They'll play for the Section 2AAAA title on Friday, Mar. 8.

The Edina girls basketball team is one win away from entering the 2013 state tournament. 

The Hornets (21-5-0) will be vying for the Section 2AAAA title against Bloomington Kennedy at 7 p.m. Friday, Mar. 8, at Chaska High School. The girls are fresh off of strong victories against sectional opponents Shakopee (50-43) and Prior Lake (50-17).

Senior guard MC McGrory has been dominant on the court for the team, averaging 18.5 points per game in the sectional tournament. Sophomore Jill Morton has also been hitting her stride, averaging 9 points per game. Seniors Hailey Merrill and Madeline Rodriguez have also been strong in sectional play, with 5.5 and 5 points per game, respectively.

The Hornets have yet to face Bloomington Kennedy this season. The Eagles have an impressive 23-3-0 record for the 2012-13 season, led by strong scoring from senior Jade Martin. She averaged 17.9 points per game in her senior campaign.
