EDINA, MN — Edina was one of more than 20 cities in Minnesota to receive direct payments from the federal American Rescue Plan Act. The city was awarded more than $4.9 million from the coronavirus-relief program, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
ARPA funding to local, state and tribal governments across the country totaled $350 billion, which was meant to help officials respond to the COVID-19 pandemic and “address disparities in communities hardest hit by the pandemic,” the Treasury Department said.

Edina’s ARPA allocation of $4,932,493 was the second-smallest among the 21 Minnesota cities that received direct funding from the program.
Edina’s finances remained healthy throughout the pandemic, allowing the city to spend most of its ARPA funding on community projects, Edina City Manager Scott Neal told the Star Tribune.
The city is set to spend up to $500,000 to support high-speed internet access for up to 2,100 households through the end of 2022, officials said.
Edina allocated $400,000 for the Edina Education Fund’s Heal Together Campaign and a program to plant 100,000 trees, the Star Tribune reported.
