Hornets to Face Red Knights in State Tourney Opener

The boys hockey team was seeded fourth in the tournament and will play Benilde-St. Margaret's in the quarterfinals.

After last Wednesday, the Edina boys hockey team had no choice but to wait patiently to find out who they would be facing in the opening round.

They drew a doozy of a matchup.

The Hornets were given the No. 4 seed during Saturday's tournament pairings, and will face Benilde-St. Margaret's at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 8, at the Xcel Energy Center. The Red Knights earned a trip to the tournament by upsetting the top-seeded Minnetonka Skippers 5-1 for the Section 6AA title.

The winner of the game will advance to the semifinals to play the winner of another marquee matchup between Duluth East and Lakeville South.

Considering a decent portion of Edina residents attend Benilde, it adds a bit of hometown drama to an already exciting game.
