Edina To Host 2nd Conversation On Race And Policing Sunday

EDINA, MN — Edina’s Human Rights and Relations Commission is set to host a conversation Sunday afternoon about race, justice and policing.

The conversation, titled “Race, Justice and Policing: Past Present and Future,” will feature presentations by Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn, Officer Darren Davis and psychologist Dr. BraVada Garrett-Akinsanya, according to a news release.

Dr. Aja King, chair of the Brooklyn Park Human Rights Commission, will moderate a question-and-answer session after those presentations, the release states.

The event, which runs from 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, will be broadcast on Edina TV and livestreamed on the city’s website and Facebook page. It is the second conversation on race, justice and policing hosted by the Edina Human Rights and Relations Commission.

The commission held its first conversation last year in the wake of George Floyd’s killing by former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin. That event featured the personal experiences of four Edina residents.

This year’s event will focus on the historical roots of racial disparities in the U.S. criminal justice system, as well as how and why many pre-Civil War policies and rules remain in place in today’s justice system, the release states.
