Edina Passes $90 Million Budget; Property Tax Levy to Rise by 2.7 Percent

The average homeowner will see their property taxes rise by 1.5 percent.

Edina residents' taxes will rise slightly in 2014.

The city council unanimously passed a $90 million budget Tuesday evening that includes a $27 million property tax levy—an increase of 2.7 percent over 2013.

The owner of a median-priced, $400,000 home will see a tax hike of $16 in 2014—just 1.5 percent more than their $1,097 tax burden in 2013.

The budget increases go toward a roughly 2 percent increase in staff compensation, debt service and additional technology spending, mostly to update licenses from Microsoft and other software companies.

Edina city manager Scott Neal characterized the budget as “preservation budget” on his city blog.

"It provides sufficient funding to preserve our 2013 service levels into 2014," he wrote.
