The city will receive a $2,500 grant, signage identifying it as having made the list and access to community development resources.

For the second year in a row, Edina has been recognized as one of the nation's best communities for young people.

America's Promise Alliance named Edina one of its "100 Best Communities for Young People," an award recognizing communities across the country focused on reducing high school dropout rates and providing services and support to their youth.

The City of Edina will receive a $2,500 grant, signage identifying it as having made the list and access to community development resources. The city will be presented with the award at three different meetings: Edina City Council will receive it on Oct. 18, the Edina Board of Education will be honored on Oct. 24 and the Edina Chamber of Commerce will follow on Oct. 26.

More than 300 communities from across the country were nominated for the distinction, tasked with describing how various entities within the community work together to help children and families overcome challenges. Communities were judged on the strength and innovation of their efforts and programs to help high school graduation rates as well as preparing students to enter college and the 21st century workforce.

Edina was one of four Minnesota communities chosen as winners for 2011, the others being Landfall, Northfield and St. Louis Park. The full list can be found at www.americaspromise.org/100best.
