Edina Resident Arrested for Crack Possession

Hopkins police allegedly caught Brenton Javonn Hines with a baggie containing crack cocaine.

An Edina man was arrested last week after police allegedly caught him with a baggie containing 0.3 grams of crack cocaine.

Hopkins Police received a tip on Nov. 3 of a man trying to sell marijuana. Approximately 15 minutes after that call, police were dispatched again, this time to the 1300 block of NE Lake Street. Officers report seeing a blue mini-van backing out of a parking stall, with two people inside.

Police said the passenger of the vehicle, Brenton Javonn Hines, appeared to be moving around frantically in the passenger seat. Hines, 41, of 4648 Xerxes Ave. Apt. 1, seemed to be turning around and reaching toward the back seat of the vehicle.

Hines and the driver both exited the vehicle and officers began to search it. Police looked through one of the van's windows and were reportedly able to see a clear plastic baggie with several white rocks inside. The substance field-tested positive as 0.3 grams of crack cocaine.

Hines was placed under arrest and faces charges of fifth-degree felony possession of cocaine.
