The Green Machine ended the weekend with awards for their business plan and website, the title of regional finalists and—of course—the Chairman's Award. That last one happens to be the highest honor available from FIRST. With it, the team earned a trip to the World Championships in St. Louis.

The robotics season begins in January, when FIRST Robotics sends out information about the task the robots must complete in the competitive meets and a kit of parts and electronics for each robot.

The challenge this year was called a “Rebound Rumble.” Each team had to design a robot capable of picking up and shooting a basketball. In a tournament setting, the robots played against one another in teams of three, competing to score the most points.
