Edina's Roehl Among 'Teacher of the Year' Candidates

Jackie Roehl is one of 111 Minnesota teachers up for the annual award.

teacher Jackie Roehl is among 111 Minnesota teachers vying for the honor of 2012 Minnesota Teacher of the Year. 

Roehl, who teaches language arts at EHS, is in the running to be named the state's 48th Teacher of the Year. Roehl was nominated for the award by fellow teacher Kari Burnside.

The winner of the competition will be announced Sunday, May 6 at the Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park, MN. A 22-member panel of community leaders will be naming semifinalists and finalists over the coming weeks. Candidates include pre-kindergarten through high school educators, both from public and private schools.

The award is sponsored by the SMARTer Kids Foundation, the Northland Inn, the Harvard Club of Minnesota Foundation, United Educators Credit Union, McDonald’s Restaurants of Minnesota, Teacher Federal Credit Union, Pearson Education and Education Minnesota ESI.
