Edina Schools Board Seeks Applications From Former Members For Vacancy

Leny Wallen-Friedman, who has served on the board for a decade, is set to retire at the end of May.

EDINA, MN — The Edina Public Schools board is inviting former members to apply for a seat that’s set to open after the retirement of the board’s vice chair.

Leny Wallen-Friedman, who has served on the board for a decade, is set to retire at the end of May. He is planning to move to Connecticut, the Sun Current reported.

The Edina Public Schools board accepted Wallen-Friedman's resignation at its May 9 meeting and approved a resolution that said members will try to appoint a former board member to fill the vacant seat on an interim basis.

Whoever the board selects to fill the seat will serve until a new member is chosen during a special election Nov. 8, the same day as the 2022 general election.

Members said they plan to appoint a former member as it's the quickest way to fill the seat for a short period of time. The board said it could skip the application and interview process and reduce the amount of training the new member needs before getting to work by reappointing a former member.
