Edina Thespians Commended for 'Urinetown'

The theatre program has been recognized for this past fall's , receiving 11 SpotLight Awards for the production.

Among those awards was the sixth consecutive "Outstanding Overall Production" award for Edina High School, along with several Outstanding and Honorable Mention awards for individual actors.

More accolades could still be coming in the way of technical awards, which have not yet been decided. The awards will be celebrated during the Hennepin Theatre Trusts' SpotLight Showcase on Monday, June 11, 2012 at the Orpheum Theatre.

The complete list of Edina's awards is as follows:

• Outstanding Overall Performance
• Outstanding Performance By A Student Orchestra
• Outstanding Overall Production
• Outstanding Leading Role: Patrick Solberg as Bobby Strong, Sarah Sandberg as Hope Cladwell
• Outstanding Supporting Role: Allie Arens as Little Sally, Talia Edelheit as Penelope Pennywise
• Honorable Mention Supporting Role: James Neville as Officer Lockstock, Danielle Kellogg as Little Becky Two-Shoes
• Honorable Mention Featured Role: Aly Beveridge as Josephine "Ma" Strong, Samantha Weiman as Soupy Sue

Individual award winners are invited to perform at the SpotLight Showcase, while Outstanding individual honorees can also compete for the Triple Threat Award.

Overall Outstanding Productions—which Urinetown is—may be invited to perform a medley at the SpotLight Showcase.

A satire, Urinetown pokes fun at musical theater in general and several well-known shows in particular, including Fiddler on the Roof and Les Miserables.
