Falling Tree, Power Lines Ignite Siding on 42nd Street Home
The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Aug. 1-7.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of Aug. 1-7:
Aug. 1
- Firefighters responded to the 4000 block of West 42nd Street for a tree that fell on a house, bringing sparking and smoking power lines down on the house. Energy was being transferred through the tree limb onto the house, causing the siding to burn. The power company arrived to cut power to the house and the fire was extinguished. Fire did not penetrate into the home.
- Paramedic firefighters responded to seven incidents requiring Emergency Medical Service.
- An ambulance responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy. 62 and France Avenue. They found only property damage, no injuries.
- Firefighters assisted Edina Police with a welfare check.
- A report of sparking power lines on Vernon Avenue at Tracy Avenue was checked. No problem was found.
- One false fire alarm was investigated.

- Paramedics responded to seven EMS incidents.
- An ambulance and an engine responded to a vehicle crash with injuries on northbound Hwy. 100 on the ramp to westbound Hwy. 62.
- A construction crew punctured a natural gas service line in the 5600 block of Heather Lane and immediately crimped the line. Fire crews monitored the air and no natural gas was detected. Centerpoint Energy arrived on the scene to repair.
- One false fire alarm was reported.
Aug. 3
- Eight EMS responses.
- A vehicle rollover with injuries occurred at West 64th Street and Tingdale Avenue.
- A crash without injuries was checked at Valley View Road and Tracy Avenue.
- Firefighters checked out a report of an electrical box that was smoking and found it was not smoking on arrival. The power company was responding to follow up.
- A reported natural gas smell was checked at a home in the 5100 block of Abercrombie Drive. Firefighters did not find an odor and the gas monitor did not detect unsafe levels of natural gas. The gas company will follow up.
- A reported vehicle fire was found to be an overheated engine on Hwy. 100 and Benton Avenue.
- Three false fire alarms were reported.

- Seven EMS incidents.
- Paramedics assisted at a vehicle crash with injuries on West 69th Street at York Avenue.
- A vehicle crash with injuries occurred at the intersection of Hwy. 62 and Hwy. 169.
- Edina Fire and Police departments checked out the area of Interlachen Boulevard and Brookside Avenue after a loud “boom” was heard along with a power outage in the area. The power company was called to the scene.
- A false fire alarm was investigated.
Aug. 5
- 10 EMS calls.
- Water leaking onto a smoke detector caused a fire alarm at the hospital in the 6400 block of France Avenue.
- Firefighters investigated a possible natural gas leak in the 6600 block of Maloney Avenue, but found no levels of natural gas. Centerpoint was en route to follow up.
- A home on Cooper Circle was checked when a gas stove was left on. The stove had been turned off and gas levels were found to be normal when the fire department arrived.
- One false fire alarm was investigated.
Aug. 6
- Firefighters extinguished a burning piece of heavy equipment being used at the site of a on Gleason Road and Hwy. 62. The cause of the fire was not determined.
- Paramedics responded to three EMS incidents.
Aug. 7
- Eight EMS responses.
- Four investigations for false fire alarms.
