Firefighters Disarm Smoking Doorbell, Malfunctioning Stove

The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for July 18-24.

The  responded to the following incidents during the week of July 18-24:

 

July 18

  • 14 responses for Emergency Medical Service by paramedic firefighters.
  • A vehicle crash with injuries on France Avenue, south of Hwy. 62 was attended by an ambulance and an engine crew.
  • A person was removed from a stalled elevator in the 7100 block of France Avenue.
  • Smoke and the smell of burning plastic was reported in the 4200 block of Crocker Avenue. A plastic bag was set on top of a toaster oven while the power was out. When power was restored, the toaster oven turned on and melted the bag.
  • Firefighters investigated a malfunctioning carbon monoxide detector. 
  • 17 false fire alarms were investigated.

 

July 19

July 20

  • Nine EMS incidents.
  • The smell of natural gas was reported in the area of a park building in the 5200 block of Minnehaha Boulevard. No gas was measured, but combustibles were too close to the water heater and it was recommended that the gas company continue to the scene to inspect.
  • Five false fire alarms were reported.

 

July 21

  • Nine EMS responses.
  • A vehicle versus bicycle injury accident required paramedic response and transport for a patient in the 7000 block of York Avenue.
  • The smell of smoke was reported in the 5200 block of Grandview Lane. The resident reported to firefighters that a buzzing sound was also coming from a newly installed doorbell. Firefighters used a thermal imagining camera to find heat coming from the doorbell. Firefighters disconnected power to the doorbell and recommended the resident contact the person who installed it for repair.
  • A natural gas odor was reported in the 7600 block of Parklawn Avenue. No hazardous amounts of natural gas were measured with a gas meter and sewer gas was found to be the cause of the odor. 
  • Two false fire alarms were reported.

 

July 22

  • 16 EMS calls.
  • One false fire alarm.

 

July 23

  • 12 EMS incidents.
  • A vehicle versus bicycle crash occurred in the 4300 block of West 66th Street.
  • Firefighters and paramedics assisted an occupant of an apartment with a malfunctioning natural gas stove. Gas was turned off to the stove and the resident was advised to notify maintenance to repair. 
  • Arcing power lines were reported and investigated twice in the 6400 block of Parkwood Road, the 4600 block of Lexington Street and the 6000 block of Kellogg Avenue. 
  • A smoke smell was reported and investigated in the 7300 block of Gallagher Drive. Burnt food was found to be the cause of the odor.
  • Firefighters assisted a resident of an apartment building with a fire alarm malfunction. 
  • One false fire alarm was reported.

 

July 24

  • Three false fire alarm responses.
