Firefighters Investigate Burnt Popcorn, HVAC Belt Malfunction
The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for June 20-26.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of June 20-26:
June 20
- Paramedic firefighters responded to seven incidents requiring Emergency Medical Service.
- A report of smoke was investigated by firefighters and found to be coming from a recreational fire. There were no hazards.
June 21

- 10 EMS incidents.
- An ambulance and an engine responded to a vehicle crash with injuries near the intersection of Hwy. 62 and Hwy. 100.
- A vehicle crash with injuries occurred at the intersection of France Avenue and Hwy. 62.
June 22
- A vehicle engine fire was extinguished near the intersection of Washington Avenue and West 78th Street.
- Nine EMS incidents.
- A report of sparking power lines was investigated in the 5100 block of Gorgas Avenue. Lines were not down and there were no immediate hazards. The electric company was notified and was responding.
- Firefighters investigated a smoke smell on the fifth floor of a building in the 6300 block of France Avenue. Burnt microwave popcorn was found to be the cause of the smoke condition.
- Two false fire alarms were investigated.
June 23

- Nine EMS calls.
- A natural gas service line was cut by an excavation crew working in the 5600 block of Chowen Avenue. The gas company was on the scene prior to the FD arrival.
June 24
- 13 EMS responses.
- A vehicle accident with injuries occurred on Hwy. 100 at Benton Avenue.
- Firefighters responded to a fire alarm at an apartment building in the 5200 block of Villa Way, where they found that burnt food had caused the alarm. They ventilated smoke from the unit and the hallway, then reset the alarm system.
- A car fire was reported in the 6400 block of Tracy Avenue. Smoke was coming from the engine, but there was no fire. Water was used to cool the engine and the owner arranged for a tow.
- One false fire alarm was reported.
June 25
- Four EMS responses.
- Paramedic firefighters assisted at a vehicle accident with injuries near the intersection of West 65th Street and France Avenue.
- Paramedics responded to a vehicle accident in the 6300 block of Interlachen Boulevard. There were no injuries.
- A false fire alarm was reported.
June 26
- Assistance was given to a resident who had an oven fire in the 4600 block of France Avenue. The area around the oven was checked for extension with a thermal imagining camera and power was shut off to the oven so the resident could clean up safely.
- 11 EMS incidents.
- Firefighters responding to a fire alarm in the 7100 block of France Avenue learned while en route that smoke from a burnt HVAC belt was the cause of the alarm. Engine 83 and Medic 2 slowed to routine and met with the building engineer, who will replace the belt and reset the alarm.
- A carbon monoxide alarm malfunction was investigated on Woodland Avenue.
