Hornets Cruise to Semifinals with Win Over Duluth East

The Edina girls basketball team's quest for a state title will continue Thursday night.

The girls basketball team's quest for a state title will continue, following a 50-46 victory over Duluth East in the opening round of the Class AAAA state tournament.

The Hornets came out strong against the Greyhounds, outscoring them 23-21 headed into the second half. Senior KatyBeth Biewen had 10 points in the first half alone.

The Greyhounds came back to take the lead with a few minutes remaining in the game, but the Hornets tied it up at 46-46 with a little more than 30 seconds left in regulation. Edina eked out four more points before the final whistle, making it a 50-46 win.

Junior guard MC McGrory turned in a monster performance, with a total of 26 points, nine rebounds, one assist and two steals. Biewen ended the game with 16 points and five assists, while Lindsey Johnson had six points.

The Hornets—seeded No. 2 in the tournament—will face unseeded Osseo High School at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 15, at the Target Center.
