Hornets Finish Close Second at State Alpine Meet

The boys alpine ski team narrowly lost out to Minnetonka on the slopes, 147 points to 161.

The Edina boys alpine skiing team finished second at the 2012 state meet Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

The boys team narrowly missed a win at the state meet, takind second place to Lake Conference foe Minnetonka, 147 points to 161. It was a significant improvement for the boys, who just last year finished tied for sixth place at the meet.

Jake Campbell finished ninth overall with an individual time of 1:11.71, followed by fellow Hornets Spencer Knack in 23rd place (1:13.90), Will Baker in 26th (1:14.52), Alex Thomson in 45th (1:18.69) and Peter Smith in 61st (1:28.50).

Ana Martinez—the lone Hornet to qualify for state from the girls alpine ski team—finished 50th overall with a time of 1:26.49.
