Hot Dish Catches Towel, Cabinets on Fire

The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Nov. 28-Dec. 4.

The  responded to the following incidents during the week of Nov. 28-Dec. 4:

Nov. 28

  • Paramedics responded to five calls for emergency medical service. 
  • Firefighters investigated two false fire alarms.

  • Firefighters extinguished a kitchen fire in the 5700 block of Brook Drive. A towel caught fire when the homeowner was removing a dish from the oven and set the items down. The fire then spread to the cabinets above. The fire was extinguished and the area was checked for extension. Damage did not extend beyond the cabinets. Smoke needed to be ventilated from the home. 
  • 12 EMS incidents.
  • One false alarm investigation.

  • 15 EMS calls. 
  • Paramedics responded to provide EMS at the scene of a vehicle crash on France Avenue at Hwy. 62.
  • Firefighters checked out a malfunctioning carbon monoxide alarm in the 5700 block of Blake Road.
  • Two false fire alarms were investigated. 

Dec. 2

  • 11 EMS incidents.
  • A vehicle crash with injuries occurred in the parking lot of an apartment building in the 5300 block of Vernon Avenue.
  • Firefighters were en route to a reported power line arcing call when Edina police on the scene found the problem lines were located in Richfield. Richfield Fire was contacted to respond and Edina crews were cancelled en route.
  • A carbon monoxide alarm was investigated in the 6900 block of Dawson Lane. The chirping was found coming from a malfunctioning smoke alarm. 
  • One false fire alarm was reported.

Dec. 3

  • Seven EMS responses.
  • Paramedics and firefighters responded to a vehicle crash with injuries due to slippery roads on Hwy. 169 at Lincoln Drive. 

Dec. 4

  • Paramedics responded to eight calls for emergency medical service.
