Letter: Mazorol Explains Decision to Not Seek Re-Election

Rep. Pat Mazorol will not be running for House District 49B this fall.

Thank you for the extraordinary privilege of serving the people of Bloomington and Edina in the Minnesota House of Representatives. I am thankful for the sacrifice and encouragement of my wife, Barbara, loyal support from campaign volunteers, and engagement of passionate constituents that have given me the opportunity to serve.

Many changes have occurred since I first announced my intention to seek election to the Minnesota House of Representatives, including in the last year increased responsibilities in my work, in personal commitments, and in family. Because of these changes and my desire to serve only when and where I can fully give the service deserved by the people, I will not be seeking election to another term. New legislative districts, new constituents, and new circumstances provide a natural opportunity for transition. It has been a full and exciting experience, but there is more to do, and I look forward to serving this community for the remainder of my term.

As a resident, I have had the pleasure of meeting our neighbors and learning their wishes. As a legislator, I have had the opportunity to author and pass several bills that matter to the future of our great state. As a lawyer, I have had the privilege to serve as vice chair of the Judiciary Committee that sets policy and budgets for the state court system. The experience has exceeded my anticipation. I hope that my representation has met your expectation.
