Local Runners Represent Edina in Boston Marathon
Seven Edinans wound up competing in the annual marathon.
Seven Edina residents were among the runners who crossed the finish line at Monday’s .
The following local runners finished the famous race, according to searchable results on the Boston Athletic Association website:
- Matthew Olson, 22, 3:30:20 (3,110th place overall)
- John G. Cummings, 36, 3:39:12 (4,438th place overall)
- Paul H. Kalina, 50, 3:51:45 (6,792nd place overall)
- Christeen O. Paulison, 44, 4:25:04 (13,327th place overall)
- Jenifer B. Shoemate, 45, 4:31:28 (14,404th place overall)
- David A. Iacono, 50, 4:54:09 (17,143rd place overall)
- Janet W. Chen, 52, 5:30:38 (19,609th place overall)
Four Edina residents who qualified for the race elected to not run it this year, including Steve Alpeter, Ellen Gans, David Johnson and Joshua Riff. Because of high temperatures of nearly 90 degrees on Monday, the Boston Athletic Association issued an email statement offering a deferment to any official runner who would like to postpone his or her participation until 2013.

In total, 22,480 runners from around the world started the race and 21,554 finished. Minnesota had 419 people start the race and 408 finish.
In the overall competition, Sharon Cherop, 28, of Kenya took the top female spot with a time of 2:31:50 and Wesley Korir, 29, of Kenya and Louisville, KY, led the men with a time of 2:12:40.
