Masica Files Paperwork for Mayoral Race
Linda Masica served two terms on the City Council before deciding to not seek re-election in 2008.

Former two-term City Council member Linda Masica has officially filed paperwork to oppose current Mayor Jim Hovland in this fall's election.
Masica served two terms on the City Council, having been elected in 2000 and 2004. She opted to not seek re-election in 2008, but is returning to ballots in 2012 to run for mayor.
Hovland has served as Edina's mayor since January 2005, after being voted in during the 2004 election. Prior to that, he served two terms on City Council. He was first elected to City Council in 1996.

Candidates have also surfaced for two open seats on the City Council, currently held by Mary Brindle and Ann Swenson. Brindle—who is wrapping up her first term—and Swenson—completing her second—have both filed paperwork with City Clerk Deb Mangen to seek re-election this fall. Wayne Dvorak, who unsuccessfully attempted to win a council seat in 2008, has also filed for one of the two at-large seats.
Filing for the local races opened on Tuesday, July 31, and runs through Tuesday, Aug. 14. Anyone interested in running for office must be at least 21 years old, an eligible voter and resident for at least 30 days prior to the general election.

The filing date for these seats is later in the summer because Edina does not hold a primary for its election. Get more information on local races by checking out our .
All of the open council seats are four-year terms, running from Jan. 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2016.

Candidates must file an Affidavit of Candidacy and pay a $5 filing fee with the City Clerk's office at , 4801 W. 50th St., Edina, MN 55424. Office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
