Dozens of free programs for children, teens, and adults are presented each month at Hennepin County libraries. First Pages: Selecting Literary Agents
Saturday, May 12, 11 a.m.-noon at Edina Library 
Registration required; begins April 14; limit 20. Most publishers won’t look at your manuscript unless an agent represents you. How do you get an agent? Learn what good agents do and don’t do, and how to find one right for your work, along with query letter basics. 
This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. Presented in collaboration with The Loft Literary Center.

Great Decisions: Indonesia
Monday, May 14, 4-5:30 p.m. at Edina Library 
Registration required; begins April 16; limit 75. Indonesia made remarkable strides politically, economically and socially since emerging from authoritarianism 15 years ago. Yet the new, democratic country is still developing, facing considerable challenges. Retired Foreign Service officer and media commentator Tom Hanson will speak.

Learn about common misconceptions, pain management strategies, exercises, diet and treatment options. Discover programs and services offered by the Arthritis Foundation.

Master Gardener: Pruning Trees and Shrubs
Saturday, May 19, 10:30 a.m. at Edina Library 
What are the important considerations that go into pruning your woody plants? Topics include timing, how to prune, steps in pruning, the do's and don't's of pruning and the proper tools to use. 
Presented in collaboration with Hennepin County Master Gardeners, University of Minnesota Extension.

Tuesdays With a Scholar

Artitude: Comics and Manga
Tuesdays, May 1-29, 4-6 p.m. at Southdale Library

Grades 7-12. Refine your skills beyond those drawings done in the margins of your math and science papers. You will learn how professionals produce awesome comic books and animations, and create dynamic characters, believable environments and captivating story lines in this six-part workshop.

HIRED Career ConsultationWednesday, May 2, 1-3 p.m. at Southdale Library
This one-on-one 15-minute session will help job seekers develop a customized job search plan, including networking, cover letters, résumés, interviewing, career assessment and more. Sign up in person at the second-floor conference room on the day of the program.

Teen Anime Club
Wednesday, May 2, 7-9 p.m. at Southdale Library 
Grades 7-12. Can't get enough anime? Join up to watch and review brand-new anime episodes, share artwork and hang out with other anime fans.

Used Book Sale
Friday & Saturday, May 4 & 5, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Sunday, May 6, noon-4:30 p.m. at Southdale Library
The Friends of the Library will hold a sale of hundreds of adult and children's fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Most books, withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public, will be priced $1 or less. Funds raised will benefit the library.

Minnesota's Other Civil War: The Dakota Uprisings
Tuesday, May 8, 7-8:30 p.m. at Southdale Library 
Dean Urdahl, Minnesota State Representative whose ancestors helped settle Litchfield Township in 1856, will speak on the 1862 Dakota Conflict as well as his "Dakota Uprising" series of historic novels. This sesquicentennial event will offer a deeper knowledge of Minnesota's history.

MacPhail Center for Music: Sing, Play, Learn!

SCORE® Business Owners Roundtables

Get feedback and advice, exchange ideas, experiences and solutions with other business owners in a roundtable discussion led by SCORE counselors. Spice & Slice of Asian America: American Bamboo 
Saturday, May 26, 10:30 a.m. at Southdale Library 
As with other immigrant groups, Asian immigrants have had their struggles. This new play will offer poignant and comic insights into the Asian American experience, highlighting specific ethnic Asian groups and will incorporate Japanese and Vietnamese stories and Bollywood-style dances.
