Model Yachts Hit the Waters of Centennial Lakes

The Edina Model Yacht Club kicked off the 2012 boating season last week, thanks to warm weather.

The unseasonably warm weather Minnesota has been experiencing this year might have cut the season short for ice skating enthusiasts at , but Edina's model yacht club is already reaping the benefits of an early spring.

Seven members of the EMYC hit the waters of the park on Thursday, Mar. 15, with their radio controlled sailboats in tow.

This is the earliest time in 21 years the club has been able to launch their boats, as Centennial Lakes is not typically ice-free at this point in the year. The club members gather every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday from mid-afternoon through the remainder of the evening, so long as weather and wind conditions cooperate.
