Opening Day for Skating Rinks Bumped Back

Warm weather is to blame for the delay, with the anticipated opening day now set at Dec. 23.

Unseasonably warm weather might make driving to holiday celebrations a lot easier this winter, but it also means the city's ice skating rinks will be opening for business a little later than planned.

The city initially planned to open its 12 outdoor ice rinks for business on Tuesday, Dec. 20, but officials elected to delay that opening as temperatures are expected to hover around the 30s all week.

Recreation Supervisor Donna Tilsner said the city now anticipates opening the rinks for business on Friday, Dec. 23. Weather permitting, of course.
