Osseo Eliminates Edina from State Tournament

The Hornets lost to the unseeded Orioles, 57-47, in a semifinal matchup.

They made it several steps closer to achieving their dream, but 2012 will sadly not include a state title win for the girls basketball team.

After back-to-back years of , the Hornets finally bucked the trend and earned a slot in the state tournament.

Following a strong , the girls faced an unseeded Osseo team Thursday night, Mar. 15, at the Target Center.

Osseo led Edina by three points at the end of the first half, then turned on the jets early in the second half to pull away to a 41-27 advantage.

The Hornets recovered late in the game, but the damage was already done. The Orioles were able to hold on to that lead to finish the night with a 57-47 victory over the No. 2 seeded Hornets.

Junior guard MC McGrory led the Hornets in points, with 20 points in total. She also had a pair of assists and two steals in the game.

Senior KatyBeth Biewen had 16 points, two assists and one steal. Lindsey Johnson finished the game with five points, Julia Good contributed four and Vivian Engen managed two points during the semifinal matchup.

The Hornets will play Eastview at 4 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 17, at Concordia University to determine the third place winner.
