Paulsen Makes 'Best of Congress' List

Republican Rep. Erik Paulsen was the only Minnesota legislator to make Working Mother Magazine's 2012 list.

Congressman Erik Paulsen—who represents Minnesota's Third District—recently received accolades from Working Mother Magazine for his efforts to help working parents thrive.

Paulsen was the only Minnesota legislator among the publication's list of the best members of Congress. The magazine selected 30 members—22 Democrats and eight Republicans—from the 112th Congress who helped produce "bipartisan legislation to promote the well-being of the nation’s families."

Working Mother lauded Paulsen's work supporting the Lifelong Learning Accounts (LiLAs) Act of 2011, saying he recognizes the value education and training have for both working families and businesses.

"LiLAs would be employer-matched portable education accounts that encourage a partnership between workers and employers," the magazine wrote. "Paulsen also co-sponsored the Savings Enhancement for Education in College Act, which would permanently extend the tax incentive for employers who contribute to an employee’s qualified college savings plan."

Paulsen was also praised for giving employees caring for sick children or parents tiem off with pay as well as allowing staffers to work from home when needed, with Working Mother saying he "understands the importace of work life balance."

"Members of the congressman’s staff are also encouraged to continue their education while they work, and he offers flexible scheduling to make sure they can get to class and study," the magazine wrote.
