(PHOTOS) Creek Valley Students Bike, Walk to School

Students throughout Edina took part in International Walk (or Bike) to School Day.

Some ran. Others strolled. A few even skipped.

Students throughout the city took part in International Walk (or Bike) to School Day on Wednesday, Oct. 5. Hundreds of students burned calories on their way to , where Edina Mayor Jim Hovland was on hand to greet them. Hovland and school staff doled out stickers to reward the students' effort.

Walk to School events are aimed at increasing physical activity among children, as well as building connections between schools, families and the broader community.

The event was organized by Bloomington and Edina school staff, with assistance from the Bloomington Public Health Statewide Health Improvement Program as well as Bike Walk Twin Cities.

It's part of a larger effort known as do.town, a collaborative initiative between the cities of Edina, Bloomington and Richfield and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota. The goal of do.town is to improve the health of the participating communities by engaging residents to make healthy lifestyle choices.
