(PHOTOS) Edina Residents Learn About Health, Wellness

The 2012 Health and Wellness Expo was held Saturday, April 28, at St. Patrick's Church.

The 2012 event was jointly organized by the Edina Community Foundation, the Edina Resource Center and . Dick Crockett, executive director with the Edina Community Foundation, said the goal of the most recent expo was teaching Edina residents how to "lead better lives."

"The focus was deliberately changed this year from the Senior Resource Expo to the Health and Wellness Resource Expo," Crockett said. "We wanted to bring in a younger generate or two and help them see the benefits of leading a healthy life at all ages."

Larry Cipolla, a master gardener with Hennepin County, was on hand Saturday to answer questions from Edina residents about what to plant, when to plant it and how to maintain a garden in just about any living situation.

"We try to go to events like this to educate people," Cipolla said. "Maybe you had a home and now your'e retired or you're living in an apartment or condo or whatever—we bring in a few props to show people they can raise their own crops at home."

Carrie Cabe with the Edina Resource Center helped organize the more than 50 exhibitors who attended the expo. Cabe said connecting people with services is a great benefit of an event like the Health and Wellness Expo.

"It's wonderful to give them an opportunity to see what's local to them, sharing connectedness and services in our community," Cabe said.
