(PHOTOS) Hornets Fall to Blaze on Opening Day

The Edina baseball team lost its season opener against Burnsville, 6-1.

The Hornets baseball team kicked off its 2012 season against the defending Class 3A state champion Burnsville Blaze on Thursday, April 12.

The Hornets jumped out to an early lead against the No. 1-ranked Blaze, leading 1-0 all the way through the 4th inning. Burnsville came back with a total of six runs in the 5th and 6th inning of the game, pulling away from the Hornets to win the nonconference matchup.

Mark Handberg finished the game 2-for-3, with one RBI. Nicholas Omodt went 1-for-3, with one stolen base and the Hornets' lone run. Matthew Hopfner was 2-for-3 with one double.

The Hornets continue their season when they head to Shakopee at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 13, then return to Edina for their home opener against Wayzata at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, April 16, at .
