(PHOTOS) Hornets Fall to Defending State Champs

The Edina boys lacrosse team is now 1-1 on the season.

It wasn't enough to upset defending state champion Benilde-St. Margaret's, but the boys lacrosse team put up one heck of a fight in its 12-8 loss Thursday night, April 19.

The Hornets took the field at the in the midst of cool, rainy weather. The Red Knights took the early lead, outscoring Edina 3-1 in the first quarter.

The Hornets rebounded to nearly keep pace with their opponents in the second and third quarters, but were still down 10-7 at that point. The Red Knights continued outscoring the Hornets 2-1 in the fourth, bringing the final tally to 12-8.

Edina was led by junior Richard McGowan, who had four goals and one assist. Fellow junior Derek Todd had two goals, while Willy Dugan and Danny Regan each tallied one goal apiece. Goalie Austin Dover had 14 saves in the contest.

The Hornets cross the border to face Lake Conference rival Eden Prairie at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.
