Police, Fire Departments Investigating Dumpster Fire at Cornelia Elementary
The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for June 6-12.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of June 6-12:
June 6
- 13 responses requiring Emergency Medical Service from paramedic firefighters.
- Paramedics attended to a vehicle crash with injuries that occurred in the 100 block of American Boulevard in Bloomington at the request of Allina Ambulance.
- There was one false fire alarm investigation.
June 7

- A mutual aid response was given to the St. Louis Park Fire Department to assist with extinguishment of an apartment fire in the 4600 block of Minnetonka Boulevard. Several departments assisted, helping firefighters fighting the blaze on a day with high temperatures.
- Eight EMS incidents.
- Paramedics and firefighters assisted at a vehicle crash with injuries that occurred in the 5400 block of France Avenue.
- A person was rescued from a stalled elevator in the 3900 block of West 50th Street.
- Contractors working in the area of Glouchester Drive and Corneila Drive punctured a small supply gas line in the street. The line was not indicated or marked. The line was crimped and the gas company was called to repair.
- The smell of natural gas was reported by a city worker who was reconnecting utilities after road construction in the 7300 block of Corneila Drive. The gas company arrived to mitigate.
- Firefighter investigated and tested the air with gas monitors at a home in the 4500 block of Drexel Avenue where a carbon monoxide alarm sounded. No levels of gas were measured. The gas company was contacted for follow up.
June 8
- 12 EMS responses.
- One false fire alarm was investigated.

- Firefighters responded to investigate a fire alarm in the 6200 block of Virginia Avenue. The homeowner reported that newspaper had been placed on the stove top and the wrong burner had been turned on igniting the newspapers. Water was sprayed immediately on the paper to extinguish the flames. Fire was out prior to the arrival of the fire department. No damage occurred and minor smoke was ventilated from the home.
- Four EMS incidents.
- Firefighters investigated a fire alarm at an apartment building in the 7700 block of Cahill Road. A tripped detector and smoke haze was found in the elevator room from an overheated hydraulic pump for the elevator. Power to the elevator was turned off and the building manager called a repair company.
- Two false fire alarms occurred.
June 10
- Firefighters responded a reported trash can fire in the 7000 block of . Crews arrived and found a large metal trash dumpster in the school parking lot with the contents on fire. Flames were extinguished. There were no signs of natural fire causes. Edina Police will investigate and review security tapes.
- There were 15 EMS incidents.
- Paramedics assisted at a vehicle crash with injuries on France Avenue at West 76th Street.
- A natural gas supply line was hit by contractors using a power shovel in the 5900 block of View Lane. The utilities had been marked, but the line was shallower than the locating devices indicated.
June 11
- Mutual aid assistance was given to Eden Prairie Fire Department for a house fire in the 17000 block of Lorence Way in Eden Prairie.
- Nine EMS responses.
- A homeowner reported the smell of gasoline both inside and outside a house in the 5600 block of Code Avenue. The odor was not as strong when firefighters arrived and no levels of gas were measured. A suspected source may have been a neighbors’ recreational fire that may have burned improper materials.
- There was one false fire alarm.
June 12
- Paramedics responded to 11 EMS incidents.
- Assistance was given to residents who were helping their son get down from a tree in the 7100 block of Heatherton Trail.
- One false fire alarm was reported.
