Edina is partnering with the Recycling Association of Minnesota to give residents a free option for recycling their holiday lights.
Edina residents can drop off light strings through Jan. 1 at city hall or at Concord Elementary School. (Other drop off locations statewide are listed on the RAM website.)
Every part of the string is recycled, from light bulbs to copper, and RAM aims to collect 125,000 pounds of lights this year.
“Maybe you have that string with several burnt out light bulbs, or you are upgrading to newer or better lights. Recycle them instead of throwing them away,” Edina's Recycling Coordinator Solvei Wilmot said in a statement. “This keeps them out of the landfills while creating jobs.”
