School Board to Discuss South View Renovations
District considering $2.3 million construction project to add 5,750 square feet to the middle school.

The Edina Board of Education will be weighing the prospect of moving forward with a $2.3 million construction project at when it convenes tonight, July 18.
Board members are set to hear a presentation from Wold Architects and Engineers on the proposed 5,750 square foot expansion, then vote on whether to allow the project to advance.
The district reports South View has exceeded the functional capacity of the building, potentially being short on space for 168 students beginning with the 2011-12 school year. Wold has proposed expanding the middle school by 5,750 square feet, adding on to the cafeteria space and renovating at least four classroom areas.

All of the work is set to result in more than five new classrooms and a cafeteria capable of seating 1,536 students over the course of four lunch periods.
Should the school board approve the item, Wold would move forward with preparing and issuing construction documents. Construction could begin as early as this September, with an estimated conclusion in the fall of 2012.
