When The Hunger Games opened in theaters at midnight on Thursday, Mar. 22, it had already broken several box office records.

The film is expected to make as much as $140 million in its opening weekend and has reportedly sold out nearly 2,000 screens across the country through pre-sale tickets. And if critical reception is to be believed, the hype isn't unwarranted—the film currently has a 90-percent rating on rottentomatoes.com.

If that doesn't give you an inkling of the hype surrounding the big-screen adaptation of the bestselling Suzanne Collins novel, perhaps the fact that 's held early showings on six different screens might. That's two IMAX showings—12:01 and 3:15 a.m.—and four normal screens all featuring midnight showings.
