Smoldering Fire Extinguished in Middle School Bathroom

The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Oct. 24-30.

The  responded to the following incidents during the week of Oct. 24-30:

Oct. 24

  • The St. Louis Park Fire Department called Edina Fire for mutual aid for a structure fire in the 2500 block of Lynn Avenue South. 
  • Paramedic firefighters performed Emergency Medical Service in 18 incidents.
  • A vehicle crash with injuries occurred at the intersection of West 69th Street and France Avenue. 
  • Smoke from a malfunctioning washing machine motor set off a smoke alarm in the 4500 block of Oak Drive.
  • Firefighters investigated a reported odor of natural gas in the 5400 block of Xerxes Avenue. No gas odor was found. The gas company was on the scene to investigate. 
  • There was one false fire alarm investigation.

Oct. 25

  • A fire alarm brought the fire department to . The alarm panel indicated the area of the smoke alarm, where smoke was found coming from a restroom waste container. The small, smoldering fire was extinguished and there was no damage noted.   
  • 10 EMS incidents.
  • Firefighters investigated a carbon monoxide alarm. It was found to be malfunctioning.
  • There were two false fire alarms.

Oct. 26

  • Nine EMS responses.
  • Two false fire alarms were reported.

Oct. 27

  • Nine EMS incidents.
  • A vehicle crashed into a building in the 7400 block of France Avenue, when the accelerator pedal was mistaken for the brake. Paramedics treated and transported the injured driver.
  • A illegal recreational fire was extinguished in the 5000 block of Schaefer Road.
  • Firefighters investigated a smoke haze and burning odor at the . Power was out to the fluorescent ceiling fixtures and a breaker tripped on the electrical panel. No other source or problem was found. An electrician was responding to the scene for repair.

Oct. 28

  • Four EMS responses.
  • An ambulance and an engine responded to a vehicle crash with injuries on France Avenue at Hwy. 62.

Oct. 29

  • Nine EMS incident responses.
  • Three false fire alarms were reported.

Oct. 30

  • 10 EMS calls.
  • The smell of natural gas was investigated at an apartment building in the 4900 block of West 77th Street. The gas company was contacted and reported they had been at the building 20 minutes earlier. All levels plus the parking garage were monitored, finding no levels of gas. The odor also was not present.
  • A fire alarm was investigated in the 7200 block of York Avenue. The pull station fire alarm had been pulled maliciously; there was no fire.
